Prime Minister’s Internship Scheme Announced for Chartered Accountants: Government to Pay Stipends Directly

Under the Prime Minister’s Internship Scheme, the Government of India will now pay 90 percent of the ₹9,000 monthly stipend for interns working at Chartered Accountant (CA) firms. According to CA Jainik Vakil, this initiative will greatly benefit interns working in smaller CA firms, including those in smaller towns and cities. Previously, this scheme was primarily utilized by large corporations, but it has now been expanded to include small CA practices across India.

Previously, CA firms struggled to pay stipends because many are structured as proprietorships or partnerships and lack a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) budget. The government has now provided significant relief by relaxing these norms, opening doors for thousands of CA firms across Gujarat and India to benefit from this policy.

The primary objective of this internship scheme is to provide youth with professional training in a real-world environment, while also helping CA firms easily access skilled talent—specifically those in Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities. Interns will receive practical training in areas such as tax audits, statutory audits, GST compliance, income tax return filing, and TDS compliance.

Under this scheme, the government will cover 90 percent of the monthly stipend, while the CA firm will contribute the remaining 10 percent from their general business funds. Each intern will receive a total monthly stipend of ₹9,000.
